Well I abandoned my search for a good and cheap SIP cordless phone or SIP wireless phone and picked up a DECT 6.0 set from Costco. It's a philips and comes with 4 handsets. Finally I don't have to worry about my 2.4ghz cordless phone interfering with my wireless network anymore. It's not quite a feature laden as a VOIP phone and doesn't integrate quite as nicely into my Asterisk PBX setup but it was a lot cheaper. At least it responds to the voice mail message indicator that my Asterisk server spits out.
